What can you use the app for?

Storytlr is a unique concept where you can build a site detailing your whole life; it’s possible to customize virtually anything to suit your style. It’s a place where you can bring together lots of different aspects of your life on the internet and makes it possible for people to visit one site to learn about you rather than visiting lots of social networking sites. You can then create interesting stories from this information which will give people something to read. You may be an active participant in many different sites, however storytlr makes it possible to bring all of this information together.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

Storytlr was founded in 2008 by Alard Weisscher and Laurent Eschenauer, the company has offices in the Netherlands and Belgium. Competitors of the site include FriendFeed, SecondBrain and Tumblr. Storytlr was shut down on December 31st 2009.

What are the differences to other apps?

This can be compared to a normal social networking application, however it brings a number of social networking sites together. Users can also use the content to create interesting stories to interest readers. The most unique thing is the brand name which is surprisingly catchy and easy to remember. It’s also possible to alter the look of the website as you can alter the CSS style sheet in the design section of the site.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

The design of the site is quite impressive, it has a nice modern web 2.0 look and feel about it. It is also very functional with lots of advanced and sophisticated features. When you first sign in you will be presented with a page where you can import data from lots of web2.0 sources. The list includes youtube, RSS feeds, Flickr, Facebook and many others. Picking a source will then bring up a short wizard which helps you set up the account. You just need the account names in most cases and don’t need to bother with passwords.

How does the registration process work?

The initial signup process is very easy, you need to enter your email choose a username and also enter a password. Take care here as the username you choose will become your address ( you don’t need to enter your password twice, you will however be sent an email that you have to confirm receipt of by clicking a link inside the email. Once you have done that you can log straight into your account, assuming of course you typed your password correctly and aren’t locked out. You can of course request a new password if you typed it wrong to start off with.

What does it cost to use the application?

Storytlr is free to use and doesn’t seem to be supported by adverts, it seems to be a hobby and is worked on by two people. It’s a very professional site and they may start using adverts when it becomes more popular.

Storytlr is a great site for anyone that is active on a number of different social networking and web 2.0 sites. It’s ideal to keep all of this information in one easy place so that your visitors can learn much more about you.
